Intro to Geffrey Chaucer

Geoffrey Chaucer (1340-1400) was born in London, England and is best know for his work on the Canterbury Tales. Chaucer was an esquire to King Edward III as part of his early jobs list. The jobs of controller of customs and clerk of the King's work are also on the list. Chaucer influenced writes like Dante and Boccaccio. Even though Chaucer is most famous the Canterbury Tales, he also wrote The House of Fame and Troilus and Cirseyde as previous works. His Canterbury work was one of the first poems to be written in English, in as time where Latin and French prevailed. Married to Philippa Roet, Chaucer had two sons, Thomas and Lewis. It is speculated that Geoffrey Chaucer died October 25, but the true date is unknown. He was buried in Westminster Abbey and was the first to be buried in what is now known as Poet's Corner.
